Writing

This will be my blog about my writing, with snippets of this and that. I blog about wildlife, art, and random other stuff at http://kecoles.wordpress.com

Here, I’ve posted the opening chapters of Mesmeris, plus a few snippets from Infixion, and the opening chapters of the unconnected Waste of Space. Hope you like them.

‘How about we pretend,’ he said, ‘just for today? I pretend I’m good and you pretend to believe me.’

When a spate of vandalism at a small English church is followed by an horrific ritualistic murder, suspicion falls on malign religious sect, Mesmeris.

Pearl is seventeen and naive, no match for enigmatic, dangerous Jack. Seduced by his charm, she soon finds herself drawn into the murky world of the twisted, violent cult. Her love for Jack puts her own life in danger, and leads her into conflict with not only Mesmeris and the police, but also her own family.

The blurb from my first novel, MESMERIS, a contemporary love story/tragedy involving two young people caught up in a satanic sect. It follows the main character, Pearl, through her tumultuous relationship with Jack, an elite, dangerous member of the cult. It is available as an ebook and paperback on Amazon.

The paperback is also available from other outlets, including Wordery

INFIXION

‘You miss it, don’t you?’ he said. ‘The excitement – the stuff that gets your blood jumping.’

‘The stuff that gets you dead,’ I said.

Pearl and Spicer have one thing in common. Both have lost loved ones to violent religious sect, Mesmeris. While Pearl moves away to escape her past, Spicer decides to do the opposite. He infiltrates the cult, going deep undercover into their shadowy world of violence, coercion and sacrilegious ceremonies. When the cult relocates to London, Pearl discovers that leaving your past behind is not as easy as she thought.

The sequel, INFIXION, involves the same religious cult, and is told from both Pearl’s point of view, and that of a new character, Spicer, who has the unenviable task of going undercover, deep into the murky world of Mesmeris. Infixion is different to, and darker than, Mesmeris. It was written as a stand-alone so can be read without necessarily reading Mesmeris first. Infixion is available now

The third in the trilogy, WORMWOOD, has recently been published and is now available on Amazon, again in both ebook and paperback formats.

I’m incredibly excited to have finished the Mesmeris trilogy, but also sad to say goodbye to characters I’ve lived with for over six years.

My work in progress is a new departure for me – a historical novel set in the mid 19th century in South West Wales, which is where I’m currently living (very handy for research purposes!)

An unconnected novel, working title WASTE OF SPACE, is on hold at the moment, but I do plan to get back to it at some point. It’s at the second draft stage, so lots still to do.

Do please bear in mind that some of my Mesmeris characters swear, some are unpleasant, and even violent. I’ve tried to make them behave, but they just won’t listen.

Ps: I created the artwork and stories on this blog, except the book covers, which are by Ally Coles and Jennie Rawlings. Please don’t copy or reproduce any of them without asking first. Cheers x
